This product detail summary analyzes the 1987 Topps football card set that includes awesome rookie cards of players such as Doug Flutie, Randall Cunningham, and Jim Kelly. This is one of the affordable 1980's football card years for Topps and 1987 Topps Football is a great football year to start a 1980's card collection. There are many affordable rookie cards in this set, including Doug Flutie and Steve Young, and many of the hall of famers from the era headline this 396 card set. There are only 396 in 1987 Topps Football cards and that makes opening unopened packs and boxes fantastic since you can typically get multiple copies of many of the hall of famers and rookie cards in each box.
Some of the highlights of this football card set include the Jim Kelly rookie card, Doug Flutie's rookie card, Randall Cunningham rookie card, a Herschel Walker rookie, Gary Zimmerman's rookie card, and hall of fame cards from the likes of Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, a second year card of Jerry Rice, and many others. Some other notable cards include Steve Young's second year card. The complete set in near mint to mint condition will probably cost you about $20-40 on Ebay or just about that. That would be a great deal to get one around that price as the rookie cards offer great value.
Here are some of the key cards and card numbers based on who my favorite players are in the set. John Elway has a great card, #31, then there is the Doug Flutie rookie card (#45). Those are followed by Walter Payton, Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice (#'s 46, 112, and 115, respectively). Next, there is the Randall Cunningham rookie card, #296 which is a great card. The Jim Kelly rookie card is #362. There are more great cards as well. The wide array of superstars and rookies in this set make it a diverse and jam packed value as you can see.
Though it has risen in price slightly, 1987 Topps football cards are not out of many collector's budgets. This is a great later 1980's football card set for collectors to collect a complete set of.
Unopened factory sets of 1987 Topps football cards cost a bit more, but a good near mint to mint condition set is often placed for sale. Unopened wax boxes, lots of packs, cello packs and boxes, and rack boxes are very fun of these cards too, and affordable compared to earlier years. I think a rack box would be a great Christmas present, with 396 cards in the set and about 1,152 cards in a rack box, 540 in a wax box, 676 or so in a cello box, that would make about 3 of your favorite football cards on average based on random odds in a rack box(Wow!).
